Unlike other video services the WimTV platform has been designed to support value creation and management. This is a partial list of functionalities offered by the platform
Describe users (i.e. specify profiles and roles with rich descriptors)
Manage content (i.e. keep track of how the right to use content is exercised)
Protect content (i.e. enforce rights to use content)
Trade content (i.e. assign rights to content to another user certain)
Pay for content or service
Send messages to other platform users
These and other functionalities are accessible via Application Programming Interfaces (API). WimTV has alreay a number of native services and applications that are based on the WimTV API. However, external developers can develop their own services and applications using the documented WimTV API.

The central WimTV service is WimBox. This service lets a user
Add content to WimBox by
Uploading it (import)
Acquiring it from the WimTV marketplace (WimTrade)
Download content from WimBox to a device if export rights exist
The figure also shows the flow of metadata, licences and money though various services and applications. Note that advertising support is currently not available.
End users can view WimTV content via a browser or via the WimView app on Android, iOS and Smart TV.
Use of WimTV technology (services, applications and plugins) is free. Offering WimTV services requires use of WimTV storage and bandwidth resources. You can buy packages of WimTV storage and bandwidth resources. Packages of different sizes can also be offered on demand.
You are free to develop your own services, applications and plugins using the WimTV API and you can buy packages of WimTV storage and bandwidth resources to offer your services.
If you offer pay WimTV services WimLabs will assess a commission on each transaction. The initial valueof the WimLabs commission is 30% of the transaction. This includes the commission paid to PayPal. Other values will be assessed depending on the type of service and the amount of traffic.
